About Coach Dave Shanley

Dave completed a BA degree in Human Movement Science, with distinction, in 1999 at The University of the Free State. He was elected to the prestigious Golden Key Honours Society which recognises outstanding academic achievement at tertiary level. Following this, he completed a B. Sport Science Honours in Biokinetics at The University of Durban Westville (now UKZN).

In 2003 he relocated to Pietermaritzburg to complete his internship under the guidance of André Pienaar, a well known Biokineticist who specialises in back rehabilitation. In 2005, he opened his own private practice that allowed him to branch out into a variety of different sporting codes, namely club rugby, various school sports and eventually he got his break in professional sport by becoming the fitness trainer and Biokineticist for Maritzburg United FC in the Premier Soccer League.

For two years running, he has also been selected as the KZN Midlands Hockey fitness coordinator. He continued to excel in his private practice before relocating to Johannesburg in 2006. Here he continued to coach school athletes up to provincial colours in athletics and also worked in club rugby as well as Platinum Stars FC in the PSL. Following his departure from the PSL in 2008,

he spent a few years working as a trainer and cluster personal training manager for Planet Fitness. Through the years, he has worked as a lecturer for various personal training colleges in Johannesburg while also running the strength and conditioning for a local boys school
